Year 1 2020 - 2021

smileyWelcome to Year 1smiley

Mrs Lloyd and Miss Gray would like to welcome all the children back after a well-earned half term break.

This half term our topic is called Real Life Superheroes.  What do you know about superheroes? Do you know any real life superheroes that have helped you?  We will be learning how to find out about real life superheroes from the recent past in our history lessons. Can you think of some ways we might find out about real life people?

In Science, we will continue to observe the weather and seasons by visiting the secret garden. You can help your child by talking about what they notice about the changes in seasons.  This half  term Cool Chloe will help us to learn how to identify, classify and group food.  Book Boy will help us to carry out research about why exercise is important for us and Brilliant Betty will help us to make comparisons.

In DT the children will be learning how to design, sew and evaluate their very own miniature superhero coat!

If you have any questions or queries, please email school and your emails will be forwarded onto Mrs Lloyd and Miss Gray . We will do our best to reply to emails as soon as we can.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Lloyd and Miss Gray

By the end of Y1 the children should be able to read and spell these 100 high frequency words.

In school we use a phoneme chart to help your child learn the spelling pattern for each phoneme. This can be used to support reading and writing. Please encourage your child to talk to you about this and keep it at home for your child to access.

New Phoneme Chart

To help you pronounce the phonemes correctly please look at Mr T's YouTube channel for videos and activities.
