Year 5 and 6 2019 - 2020

School Closure - Message from the Y5 and Y6 Team

Hello to all our lovely children and families at home. We hope that you are keeping active, enjoying the sunshine and managing to do some of your home learning. We just wanted to update you and let you know that we will be organising some further learning activities for you to do after the Easter holidays.

In the meantime, and if you wish to  keep busy during the holidays, we would like you to try and complete some maths and English activities from your book each day: at least one reading comprehension and two maths daily workouts. Just work through them from the start. You could also try some of these websites hosted by different celebrities.

Note to Parents

If you would like more structure, we have included a suggested timetable. All of these links are on external websites so we advise using these under parental supervision.

If you need further guidance and more ‘ready to run’ activities which children can do more independently while you work from home,  login to https://www.twinkl.co.uk/home-learning-hub where each day you'll find a new set of daily activities to get involved with. Book readings, live lessons, positive news updates and more will be posted each day. Activities will also be listed the day before - giving you enough time to get prepped and set up for the next day's learning.

We fully appreciate that this is an unprecedented time in which you and your children will be having to rapidly adjust to a completely different way of life. We are all juggling many roles – as parents, workers, partners, friends, daughters, sons and neighbours.  What works for someone else’s family may not work for you. Do your best in the context of your unique situation and do what works best for your family and your child. Some children will benefit from a structured day and a strict routine; others will need a more nurturing and creative approach. There is no right and no wrong way to ‘home school’ your child. Some days will be more productive than others. You know your child best. You know their limits and their capabilities.   Above all, be kind to yourself, be kind to each other and take each day as it comes.

If you need any further support, please do not hesitate to contact any of us via the school email address at enquiries@marlcliffe.sheffield.sch.uk.

Stay safe and we will see you all soon.

The Y5 and Y6 Team
